8 Things We Learned From GFW's Ed Nordholm On Wrestling Observer Radio
2. The Streaming Service Sounds Awesome
Nordholm's update on the upcoming GFW network was easily the most encouraging thing to come out of the interview. The service sounds fantastic, and while delivering on their ambitious blueprint will be challenging, Anthem's plans should create some much needed buzz.
Marketed as "the alternative wrestling network," the service shall feature two tiers: one free, and another priced at $7.99 a month. Nordholm revealed few specifics, but stated that while non-paying customers will able to watch episodes of Impact Wrestling 10 days after they've aired on Pop TV, the bulk of their content will be behind the paywall.
Ed stated "850-900 hours" of GFW's 3000-hour tape library is ready to be uploaded. They want to "aggregate all wrestling content not related to WWE," meaning partner promotions AAA, The Crash, and NOAH shall eventually have footage hosted. Nordholm also said that they're in talks with New Japan, but their inclusion seems unlikely.
The service will launch "this week," and new customers shall receive their first 30 days free. Ed didn't provide a specific date, but it's encouraging that they've already prepared up to 900 hours of content, and the inclusion of outside promotions makes the network an exciting proposition.
