8 Things We Learned From Shawn Michaels On Talk Is Jericho Part 1

3. Getting Fired

The Rockers' famous run that began in 1988 wasn't their first stint in WWE. Their original tenure was shockingly brief and came during a time when their hard partying reputation preceded them. It's no secret that Shawn and Marty lived hard and fast back then and it almost lead to their careers being over before they really got started. Michaels says that the day Vince fired them he complimented them by saying "nice boots" and when they thanked him he added "they're made for walking...just kidding" and then took them in the office and fired them. That Vince, such a wacky guy. Shawn's story is that they were being prodded to go out on the town with the rest of the boys, and even though he felt it wasn't in their best interests they went anyway to avoid offending anyone. A lot of the wrestlers - primarily Jesse Barr (performing as Jimmy Jack Funk at the time) - kept poking at them to get a glimpse of these legendary party animals they'd heard so much about. While at the bar. Barr actually took a bite out of glass and in response Shawn took a glass and shattered it over his own head. HBK said the next day that single broken glass turned into debaucherous tales of them destroying the entire bar, After reporting to Alabama to work for Continental, Tony Anthony asked if they really set their hotel couch on fire and tossed it out the window. "Telephone, telegraph, tell a wrestler."
