8 Things We Learned From Triple H On Stephanie McMahon's WWE Show
5. There’s A Cool Clip With Motörhead
Thankfully, Triple H didn't encourage WWE to go to Simmons or Stanley to write some new entrance music. They'd have only tried to turn him into a "KISS Demon" like they did with poor Dale Torborg over in WCW. There's next to no chance that Hunter would've gone for something like that anyway. He was already an established star when seeking fresh tunes in 2001.
Trips wanted to move away from his classic ‘My Time’ entrance music to something completely new that had a bit more energy, and so he requested that WWE come up with something "like Motörhead". Unfortunately, he didn’t like the first 5-6 attempts sent his way, so then ex-production head Kevin Dunn said they’d just ask the band themselves to do it. “I didn’t even know that was an option”, Hunter told Steph.
That's when ESPN ran a simply superb clip of Trips watching his new tron on the old oval SmackDown screen with Lemmy and Motörhead. Turning to the band, Triple H called it the “best f’n music in the business bar none”. Meanwhile, Lemmy looked on nonplussed by what he was seeing; the iconic rocker was probs just happy for the payoff and looking forward to his next gig on those relentless Motörhead tours.
Honestly, there's something so incredibly pleasing about seeing untouched retro footage like this. Everything about it is perfect. Triple H has his Tough Enough 'take a bump" look going on, the oval titantron conjures up so many SmackDown memories, and the whole scene is literally perfect.
What a time to be alive.
