WrestleMania 38 night two kicked off with Triple H welcoming everybody to the weekend, thanking fans for their support and then leaving his boots inside the ring before stepping away. That was symbolic to Hunter, but it was something Vince McMahon didn't want to see. According to the ex-WWE boss, it'd be "a downer" if such a celebrated legacy star effectively retired to kick off the biggest show of the year.

Trips viewed things differently. Very differently. To him, it wasn't a downer at all. Instead, it was more of a "triumphant moment", because he'd been able to shake off serious, potentially life-ending health problems to appear in front of fans and put a bow on his active in-ring wrestling career. It's easy to see both sides of this coin, truth be told.

“I’m not gonna wrestle anymore, but I’m back”. That's what was running through Hunter's mind. Meanwhile, Vince fancied kicking 'Mania off with something more uplifting than that. Let's be honest, RK-Bro retaining the old Raw Tag-Team Titles over The Street Profits and Alpha Academy wasn't going to be any better than Triple H appearing.

That was the first match scheduled for the second night of 'Mania action.

Triple H had announced his retirement just over a full week prior, so he didn't think anybody in attendance would be bummed out if he left his boots in the ring. Doing so meant a ton to such a traditionalist reared on old WWF greats of yesteryear. Eventually, McMahon relented and Hunter had his moment.
