8 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About Adam Cole
2. The Only Three-Time ROH Champion In History
Multiple title reigns are commonplace in WWE, and whilst the company regularly hot-shot their belts from wrestler to wrestler with no regard for their prestige, that’s definitely not the case in Ring Of Honor. The company has traditionally gone for quality over quantity, focusing on longer single title reigns over multiple shorter spells on-top. Only three wrestlers have held the ROH World Championship more than once as a result, and Cole is the sole three-time champion in the company’s history.
Cole notched his first title by defeating Michael Elgin in September 2013 and held it for 275 days, before eventually handing it back to the big Canadian. He then ended Jay Lethal’s epic 427-day run by taking the belt back in August 2016, with his latest ROH Title run ending at Christopher Daniel’s hands back in March.
With 445 cumulative days as champion, only current WWE employees Samoa Joe, Nigel McGuinness, and Bryan Danielson have held the belt for longer than Cole. This cements his status not only as one of the company’s most important modern era wrestlers, but one of the most successful performers in their history.
