8 Times Wrestlers Eliminated Themselves From The Royal Rumble

5. Faarooq - 1997

Ahmed would get his revenge not so long after however. Having seemingly avoided Ahmed's backstage onslaught, Faarooq entered the Rumble as the 18th participant and was well set to make a run at victory. It didn't quite work out that way for the leader of the Nation however, as he managed to last just 41 seconds in the Royal Rumble, before jumping over the top rope of his own accord.

Well, this one is a little harsh, as whilst Faarooq jumped over the rope himself, he was doing so in order to avoid a rampaging Ahmed Johnson and what looks like the longest piece of timber in professional wrestling history. It looks like a solid six feet of timber, and understandably Faarooq was in no hurry to feel it wrapped across his back, no matter how awkwardly Ahmed was handling it.

Looking back after all these years, the Ahmed/Nation feud truly was never-ending. It stretched on and on and on, going round and round in circles without anyone truly defeating the other. Faarooq has since gone on record as saying nobody wanted to work with Ahmed, who has become something of a footnote joke in wrestling history.

Damn.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
