Kane will go down in history as one of the greatest Royal Rumble competitors in history. He holds all manner of records, and in his pomp was generally the biggest threat to whoever the favourite happened to be. He made his Rumble debut in 1999, starting as he was to go on by eliminating Road Dogg, Kurrgan, The Godfather and Goldust within a minute of entering the ring.

That would be where Kane's eliminations ended however, as moments later a team of orderlies ran down to ringside, ostensibly looking to take Kane away to an insane asylum as per the orders of The Corporation. Kane was a former member you see, and had turned his back on the abuse authority stable, so they were going to make his life a living hell. Being sent to an asylum was the first step in this process.

Of course, Kane managed to get a couple of shots in first. Two orderlies hit the ring, only to be met with a right hand and a chokeslam respectively. Sensing that he was in choppy waters, Kane exited the ring over the top rope and subsequently chased the orderlies away through the crowd.

The 1999 Royal Rumble is generally regarded as the worst in the history of the bout, and for good reason. Even so, Kane's brief 53 second stint in the match lives long in the memory.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
