To UK fans of a certain vintage, SummerSlam ’92 is viewed as one of the greatest PPVs in WWE history. Even for non-UK fans, that particular edition of SummerSlam is fondly looked at both for its unique setting and for delivering one of the greatest matches ever seen.

That match, of course, was Davey Boy Smith defeating Bret Hart to become the new Intercontinental Champion in front of a packed 80,000 crowd of his countrymen. As for that unique setting, that would be London’s Wembley Stadium – a venue that no longer exists and was instead replaced by a completely new Wembley Stadium in 2007.

In that Bulldog vs. Bret contest, wrestling fans were treated to a 25-minute battle that is the very definition of a five-star match. Not just iconic for its stunning back-and-forth action, this match is also in the history books as being the first time that an Intercontinental Championship bout headlined a PPV.

Elsewhere on the card, there was the fun mystery of who Ric Flair and Mr. Perfect were going to assist as WWF Champion Randy Savage faced Ultimate Warrior, and The Legion of Doom were another standout act due to making their entrance on a couple of Harley Davidsons.

The rest of the event was fleshed out with relatively short, one-sided matches, yet SummerSlam ‘92’s main event alone make this PPV WWE’s greatest ever gift to its UK fans.
