8 UFC Dream Fights Fans Never Got To See

3. Randy Couture Vs. Wanderlei Silva

For a spell there, it looked as if it was utterly inevitable that Randy Couture vs. Wanderlei Silva would happen at some point.

Even though it was often talked about by MMA fans, and Couture himself even called the Axe Murderer out after the Natural's UFC 49 win over Vitor Belfort, this is a fight that ultimately never came to fruition.

The major stumbling block of Couture vs. Silva not taking place, was the fact that Wanderlei was busy dominating in Japan with Pride while Couture was in his prime UFC years. Despite being one of those fights that simply had to happen at some point, these two legendary fighters never got the chance to go toe-to-toe.

After a couple of UFC fights in the late 1990s, Wanderlei Silva would finally make the full-time switch to UFC in 2007 after Pride had been bought out. By that point, Couture had moved up to the heavyweight ranks and was the UFC Heavyweight Champion.

There was a brief window in early 2008 when Couture vs. Silva could have somehow happened, yet the fact that the 'Natural' was 13 years older than Wanderlei, plus Silva’s loss to Chuck Liddell in the Brazilian’s much-hyped UFC return, meant that this match-up has to go down as one of the great ‘what ifs’ of the fight game.
