8 UFC Records That Will Be Broken (And 8 That Won't)
2. WON'T - Oldest UFC Champion
Record: Randy Couture - 45 years, 147 days
Next Best: Daniel Cormier - 40 years, 150 days
An incredible feat of stamina and resilience, Randy Couture was still fighting his heart out to defend UFC gold well into his mid 40s, which is just absurd when you think about it. Not to mention he still fought until he was 47!
Couture was already on the older side of things when he made his MMA debut at UFC 13, aged 34, which makes it even more incredible that, despite getting into the game so late, he had the Heavyweight Championship around his waist 11 years later at UFC 91.
He would lose that night to Brock Lesnar, ending the last of his five title reigns in an incredible career that continued to defy age. Even after losing the belt, he would fight for three more years right up until a few weeks before his 48th birthday.
It takes an incredible toll on the body to compete inside the Octagon, with so many facets at play that are directly impacted by the way it deteriorates with age, like agility, strength and simple things like reaction time.
It's crazy that The Natural was able to even fight at that age, let alone stand at the top of his division. Only one other man has held a championship in their 40s, Daniel Cormier, but he's a good five years short of the record.
Unless GSP comes out of retirement in 2028 to claim the Welterweight Title, this one is locked away.
