Record: TIED - Demetrious Johnson and Yair Rodríguez - 4:59, 5th Round

Next Best: TIED - Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Frankie Edgar - 4:56, 5th Round

There's simple reasoning behind this one being in the WON'T category. It literally can't be beaten!

The very last second of the very last round is as late as it possibly gets in the UFC, unless they suddenly decide to bring in a new rule or system that allows for six round fights? Probably not.

This incredible feat of tension and timing has been sensationally achieved twice in company history, both in the last five years, stealing the record from Frankie Edgar who was able to submit Cub Swanson at 4:56 of their fifth round fight at Fight Night 57.

Flyweight magician Demetrious Johnson was the first to pull off the last-second miracle, locking in an armbar on Kyoji Horiguchi during their UFC 186 main event in 2015, forcing the Japanese contender to painfully tap out with the clock at 59 seconds of the 25th minute.

The incredible drama of Horiguchi giving everything he had to hold on for just one more second, while the defending champion scrambled and tore at his arm in a desperate attempt to retain his gold, was just pure theatre.

The second occurrence came in a fight of the year contender, an absolute thriller between Yair Rodriguez and Chan Sung Jung at a Fight Night in 2018. The final 20 seconds saw a wild exchange ending in Korean Zombie being unbelievably knocked out with a rising elbow.
