8 Upcoming Dwayne Johnson Movies You Need To Know About

8. The Janson Directive (???)

Based on Robert Ludlum's (The Bourne series) posthumously published book of the same name, The Janson Directive would see Johnson take up the role of Navy SEAL Paul Janson, a man used as a scapegoat by the US government after an international rescue mission goes awry. Janson has to hit the road, fighting to stay free, all the while hoping to clear his name. It sounds very Ludlum-esque. The project was only announced last winter, with Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) penning the screenplay. It's still in very early development, but one can imagine Johnson sees a lot of value in the property. The Bourne series transformed Matt Damon into a major action star, with Ludlum's plots consistently drawing audiences back. Every male movie star wants a Bourne to call their own; the chance to spearhead a series of adventures and define a popular character. This could be Johnson's opportunity, as outside of established franchises, he's struggled to get other projects cooking at the box-office (Hercules for example). The Janson Directive is in its formative stages, but seems very much in active development. I'd estimate a 2017/18 release, but that's entirely speculative.
