8 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dark (Nov 26)
1. Pentagon Loses?
While AEW is too young a promotion to inspire cynicism when it comes to long-term booking practices and the team deserve a degree of trust, having Pentagon Jr. lose to Trent is a puzzling choice that doesn't make a lot of sense at first glance.
Penta is embroiled in a feud with Christopher Daniels. After putting the SCU man on the shelf during the tag team tournament, both Lucha Brothers were chased off by the returning 'Fallen Angel' at Full Gear. Then, on last week's Dynamite, Daniels disguised himself as Rey Fenix to facilitate Pentagon's elimination from the Diamond Dozen Battle Royale.
So the duo are being set up for something, perhaps a singles match, and Penta, a potentially main-eventer, just... loses?
It's odd. Trent is great, but he has been positioned as a mid-level tag team guy so far and losses like this do nothing to protect Penta's aura, particularly as the Best Friends man survived his two biggest moves (the apron Fear Factor and arm-breaking spot) to score the victory.
