8 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (30 June)
2. Elite Hunted
Months of Young Bucks heat was paid off when they faced Eddie Kingston and Penta El Zero Miedo on Dynamite. The cooling spray and roaming goon squad both backfired on them spectacularly, as Brandon Cutler, Karl Anderson, and Doc Gallows were all foiled in a conclusion that saw Cutler accidentally spray Matt Jackson in the eyes before Frankie Kazarian came out, smoked everybody, and evened the field.
The result was a satisfying, cathartic babyface victory, earning Kingston and Penta a shot at the World Tag Team Titles.
The match itself was off the charts good. Penta and Eddie worked at 100mph early on, trying to swat the dumb moustaches right off the Bucks' faces. Kingston was particularly fiery here. His King's Road influences were on full display as he fired up through kicks to leather the Jacksons with headbutts and chops, complementing his blistering partner, whose sick corkscrew Code Red scored the closest of near-falls.
Rick Knox's hand hit the canvas for three just as Matt kicked out, playing into his ongoing Being The Elite storyline with the Bucks. That AEW could do a better job of bridging these worlds is undeniable, though it didn't diminish the match.
More than anything else, the babyface win felt good here. That's why you go out of your way to establish the Bucks as the worst guys in the world.
