8 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (30 June)

4. Sammy Gets Screwed

MJF Sammy Guevara
AEW

Dynamite's only real screwjob finish went down in the main event, with MJF triumphing over Sammy Guevara after Shawn Spears smashed the Inner Circle man with a chair. This went down while Bryce was distracted by Wardlow beating on Chris Jericho, who'd sat at the commentary desk all night, only to be lured into a Pinnacle ambush.

Your mileage will vary on this finish. AEW has gone all-in on interference-style finishes over the past couple of months, to the point that they can be a tough pill to swallow even when they make storyline sense. Take the chairshot for what you will.

Regardless, Guevara vs. MJF banged. Sammy continued his recent run of hot form by working out of his skin. Brimming with babyface fire, everything he did had the extra level of snap and pop present in his work since this feud began. His Tornillo to the outside was one of the year's most spectacular, he stole Ricochet's thunder by diving from the ring and over the guardrail and making it look brutal rather than spectacular, and the pop for his Cuban Destroyer felt thunderous.

His dance partner was operating at a similarly high gear, cutting Guevara off and wearing him down throughout. MJF's selling, too, was exemplary, as jamming his knee up after a top rope Tombstone forced him to collapse several times, leaving him vulnerable prior to the finish.

A heat-seeking conclusion to a rivalry that will unquestionably reveal many more chapters over the coming years, this was the best Inner Circle vs. Pinnacle content since the first half of Blood and Guts.
