8 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling Slammiversary 2019

3. Against All Odds

Since winning the Knockouts Championship back in January, Taya Valkyrie has proven to be quite a cowardly champion, getting herself intentionally counted out, and refusing to defend the championship until the end of the 30 day period.

At Slammiversary however, she showed everyone that she does truly deserve to hold the title when she took on Su Yung, Jessicka Havok, and Rosemary in a Monster's Ball. The match, as expected, was a chaotic brawl that delivered.

There was no holding back from the moment the referee called for the bell, with chairs, trash cans, and staple guns being brought in just minutes after. Taya in particular was on top form here, being the main woman in a tower of doom to send Su Yung down on to a ladder, and then stomping Rosemary head-first into a pile of thumbtacks in quite a nasty looking spot.

When the time came for the end of the match, Yung and Havok disobeyed Father James Mitchell's order to stay together, and started fighting amongst themselves. Unfortunately for Su, this ended badly for her as she took a tombstone piledriver off the second rope on to the thumbtacks below, and was then pinned by Taya Valkyrie who retained her gold. Taya had launched a chair into Havok's face mere moments before to steal the pin.

She may have been a coward champ in the past but at this moment, Taya Valkyrie is on top form. Although she may not look that dominant given how she ended up stealing the pinfall from another competitor, she still has the championship, and that's what matters most.
