8 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling Slammiversary 2019

2. Two Titans Collide

For a match that had been brewing since the end of April, the World Championship match between Brian Cage and Michael Elgin simply couldn't fail. Fortunately, it was indeed a highly enjoyable contest between the two titans of Impact Wrestling.

This wasn't your typical big man contest either. It wasn't just about the big slams and the hard-hitting strikes, as we also had Canadian Destroyers, 619s, and more being busted out between the pair of behemoths. Both men would also use their usual arsenal of moves as the 'Machine' performed two huge F5s, and 'Big Mike' planted the champ with an Elgin Bomb. When it came down to it, a rollup reversal to another Elgin Bomb was enough for Brian Cage to remain champion.

During the contest, there were some callbacks to Cage's legit back injury suffered at Rebellion. Perhaps the most notable of these moments was when he attempted his signature Drill Claw, but simply couldn't keep Elgin up due to being in severe pain. It's moments like that which make these matches feel that extra bit more important - it never hurts to tell a story in the ring.
