8 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling Slammiversary 2019
4. Johnny's Last Stand
With a match like Rich Swann vs. Johnny Impact, there's no real chance that it will be a bad contest. As we saw in their X Division Championship match, that was indeed the case.
It was a bit of a slow build to start, but once John E. Bravo started sticking his nose in where it didn't belong, that's where it started to kick off. The crooked referee did all he could to assist the challenger here, whether it was kicking Swann while he was down or just providing a distraction. Considering how strange it's been that he's formed this new alliance with Johnny and Taya Valkyrie, it's quite amazing that even him being there didn't cause harm to the match. In fact, it added something.
His efforts came back to bite him though, as the the champ would crash down on him while performing a dive. A phoenix splash to Johnny Impact ensured Rich Swann continued his reign as the X Division Champion, at least for now anyway. Coming into this match, it looked as if Impact would be winning the title. He had the numbers advantage, and Swann had been champion for months now. All signs were pointing towards a change, but we now know why it never happened.
This was Johnny's final match in Impact, as his contract has expired. Thankfully, we weren't aware of that beforehand as it would've made the match feel slightly pointless if we knew the challenger was on his way out. Luckily, that wasn't the case, and we instead got a phenomenal contest.
