8 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling Victory Road 2020
1. A Poor Choice
The previously unannounced bout of The Rascalz vs. XXXL was chosen to kick off the show, and as a bonus to fans, the match was streamed for free via Impact Wrestling's official Twitter account. As a match designed to draw viewers into the rest of the card on Impact Plus, this didn't fulfil its role.
While there were a handful of points in the match where the action was slightly more energetic compared to the rest of the bout, the majority of it was fought as slow as humanly possible. Of course, this is what you get when you're watching an Acey Romero and Larry D match. That's not a dig at their abilities either, as they've proven they can be highly entertaining both in the ring, and in a backstage environment (cc: their Wrestle House shenanigans with The Deaners).
Things simply weren't up to par for a match that was supposed to attract more eyes to the product, even more so considering the stream was marred by technical issues. The final sequence to the match, which saw Romero laid out at ringside, before Larry took both a backflip Pele kick and a Final Flash from Dez, was a lovely display of what the rest of the match should have brought to the table.
As a match? It was fine. As a show opener to the first Impact Plus special in months? It fell flat.
