8 Ups & 3 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (12 August)

3. Omega Vs. Myers?

Brian Myers winning the Battle Royal to earn an IMPACT World Championship match was extremely leftfield.

For long-term readers of this column, you'll know that Myers' booking has rarely been decent in the company, as has been pointed out week after week seemingly. It meant that this made little sense. Brian Myers vs. Kenny Omega (or Christian Cage, depending on tonight's AEW Rampage results) doesn't exactly scream must-see. It could be great, though.

IMPACT crafted a newsworthy Battle Royal, too. Myers dumped out Moose and Chris Sabin to win the match, with the rivals being unaware of Myers still being an active competitor. Prior to this, the former Curt Hawkins had also dumped out Sam Beale, though it's unclear if this is a definitive end to their alliance. The audience didn't really know what to think about the outcome, either; that's good. IMPACT is now in a position to build something out of Brian Myers.

As a wrestling promoter, you want to create fresh matches as often as possible. Sami Callihan and Moose couldn't win the match because they've challenged Omega too recently. Ace Austin or Eddie Edwards could have worked in the role, but they're better saved for marquee events rather than a random IMPACT Plus special.
