5. Ace In A Cage
Ace Austin vs. Christian Cage will remain a traditional singles match for the World Title at Victory Road, stemming from the former's victory over Tommy Dreamer in last night's main event.
The match itself was fine. It was your standard Dreamer affair; lots of crowd work, a bit of brawling, the iconic Dusty Rhodes punches and bionic elbow, the usual schtick. Ace sold well for the 'Innovator of Violence', while Madman Fulton's intervention at ringside, though limited, served its purpose. This had World Title implications at stake, so Ace would have been foolish to not have Fulton get involved.
It was Fulton's distraction that resulted in the Fold putting Dreamer away. Ace seemed to have a bit more torque when executing the finish, too, snapping Tommy's neck into the mat as he came down. This is the version of Ace Austin that could become World Champion. The Fold, as nice a finish as it is, needs an extra bit of jazz to it. Not everyone can take a full neck bump like Trey Miguel typically does, so having this extra tenacity to the move helps.
