8 Ups & 3 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling Emergence 2021

3. Myers Shines, But Falls

Brian Myers was never going to win the World Championship. He's not ready for the IMPACT title yet. It's Christian Cage's time to rule IMPACT, and he did so in an emphatic match.

The offence was hot from the start; Cage connected with his pendulum corner kick and inverted DDT, while Myers hit an overhead kick and elevated Flatliner. Myers did actually dominate a decent chunk of the contest, doing so without excessive Sam Beale involvement, too. With that, he comes out of this looking like a credible contender.

Christian's Spear and Killswitch ended the match, with the Spear executed beautifully. He connected in the same vein as Edge typically does, hitting an opponent's gut as they raise their arm, but he came in with such force that it winded Myers prior to the match-winning Killswitch. It ruled.

The match was outstanding, regardless of its inescapable outcome. It worked because Myers is a guy who can take a loss without it affecting his character, though he should be getting more marquee wins coming out of this. A supplemental Up to Sam Beale, too; his comedic antics were great, as he accidentally charged into the steps, clutching his knee as he impersonated Peter Griffin from that GIF.
