8 Ups & 3 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling Emergence 2021

4. Maclin Goes Low

You could argue that Steve Maclin should have defeated Petey Williams cleanly, given that this was his first marquee outing in IMPACT; should he have used the low blow?

In short, yes. It was warranted.

The former Steve Cutler wrestled a corker of a match with Petey that, crucially, was fought evenly. This wasn't your standard Maclin squash because Petey Williams is a legend of the business; he had to stand with Steve Maclin. He was great throughout the match, flustering Maclin at times that caused him to change his strategy; in the above GIF, for example, he's executing a Cactus Elbow, something he's not done in IMPACT as of this writing.

His low blow came at the match's conclusion, and was followed only by his reverse Brainbuster finish. There was no need for anything else because in this sort of scenario, a hit to the sack should be enough to throw an opponent off their game. A rollup would have been suffice, really. Maclin throwing Petey out of the ring wasn't a step too far either, as this perfectly benefits his character. The right end to the right match, here.
