8 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Worlds End 2023

1. Another Match The Card Didn’t Need

The second eight man tag of the night wasn't needed either.

Sure, everyone understands that fans in New York might've enjoyed seeing Sting wrestle there for the final time but nah - the bout didn't have any of the energy the opener did, and something felt generally off about the entire thing from the beginning. This was a TV match and had no place on pay-per-view.

Someone needs to have a word with Tony. He only wants to give people extra value, which is lovely, but overall quality is way more crucial to a pay-per-view's success than quantity. At times, AEW's approach to supershows conjures up images of WCW sticking things like, "15 Massive Matches!" on the back of the VHS box.

This eight man was even more guilty of bloating the card than either female title match too. There were next to no stakes, and the midcard lull was starting to annoy by the time this one hit the ring. Seeing Sting is always a hoot, but 15 minutes was too much for these guys.
