8 Ups & 4 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (15 April)

3. Cardona And Miguel Draw Callihan

Matt Cardona was superb in his bout with Sami Callihan. Showing a new side that we’ve never seen before from the former Zack Ryder, he connected with a Radio Silence right out of the gate, complete with a neckbreaker on the floor and a Russian leg sweep into the ringside railing. Both weren’t extreme per se, however, they sufficed in telling the story of a new Matt Cardona.

He was felled by ‘The Draw’, spiking Cardona with a package piledriver after Sami shifted referee Brian Hebner in the way of an attempted Radio Silence. Post-match, Callihan demanded that Trey Miguel accept him as his mentor, revealing he was the one who laid out Tommy Dreamer at Hardcore Justice to get Trey on the card. It culminated with Sami sending Trey back-first into a chair with a sick exploder suplex. A last man standing match has since been signed for Rebellion.

A solid TV bout this was, complete with an excellent storyline advancement after the bell. Cardona continues to rule in IMPACT, whereas Callihan and Miguel’s story arc continues to improve as each week passes. Good stuff.
