8 Ups & 4 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (15 April)

2. Alexander Vs. TJP Delivers Again

The X Division has forever been known as the superior high-flying division in all of professional wrestling. That’s quickly changing, though, because of Josh Alexander’s addition. ‘The Walking Weapon’ is tearing the division down and rebuilding it with his unique take on it, applying his knowledge of technical prowess to stand apart from the more cruiserweight style.

His show-opener vs. TJP on last night’s show was superb. Their history together in IMPACT was played up numerous times in that they both countered each other’s signature offence in beautiful fashion. Alexander, for example, caught TJP mid-flight as he went for a Mamba Splash, turning it into an ankle lock that was executed to perfection. A further trade of submissions was equally as good, going from an octopus hold into an ankle lock into an STF. A perfect display of technical wrestling.

The finish saw Alexander reverse TJP’s armbar into a powerbomb across the knee, prior to spiking the former X Division Champion with a double underhook piledriver. That they were able to top their previous singles bout from the post-No Surrender episode of IMPACT was a testament to the two’s chemistry together. Adding Ace Austin into the mix at Rebellion is a recipe for success.
