8 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (15 April - Results & Review)
4. Farewell, Silver Dime Tag Titles
For years, WWE’s title scene has been polluted by outliers, titles that simply don’t fit, as they’re from a bygone era.
The company’s tag titles have been derided for more than a decade, ever since debuting the “copper penny” unified tag titles that gave way to the “silver dime” Raw and SmackDown straps we’ve seen for the past seven-plus years. As other titles have evolved, the tag titles remained unchanged… until Monday night.
Triple H announced that the title “Raw Tag Team Championship” has been retired in favor of “World Tag Team Championship” and unveiled new belts, which unsurprisingly resemble the World Heavyweight Championship design, thus establishing a unifying design across the Raw brand for its world titles.
This likely means the SmackDown tag titles will become the WWE Tag Team Championship on Friday with a design similar to Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship. And that sounds just fine.
