8 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (19 June - Review)

4. Please Let This Be It

Tommaso Ciampa The Miz

Welcome back to Tommaso Ciampa, who thankfully returned after nine months away Monday night and immediately divorced himself from the Miz by beating him in a mercifully short match.

Ciampa was treated as Miz’s protégé last year upon debuting on the main roster, which was a very… odd pairing. An unfortunate injury gave Tommaso some separation, and when he returned Monday to answer Miz’s open challenge, he very quickly established that he was no longer aligned with the A-Lister.

Much of the chatter surrounding Ciampa’s return was that he’d be paired back up with Johnny Gargano as a re-formed DIY on the main roster. And honestly, that’s probably a good pairing that could provide both men with some opportunity to shine. But it was nice that Tommaso got to return on his own and reassert himself, at least for his first night back. (But to not have Gargano on Raw at all when it’s in his hometown? Boo.)

Now, let’s please pray that this deal with Miz is over. WWE loves to make these ridiculously simple Miz angles last for weeks, and they always have diminishing returns. There’s no reason to lock Ciampa into that vortex of boredom.
