8 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling Slammiversary 2020
3. Two Matches In
Not included her previous time in Impact Wrestling, Slammiversary marked just the second match for Deonna Purrazzo. With that in mind, it's far more shocking that she's won the Knockouts Championship this early into her Impact career, with a defence against Kylie Rae now on the cards ahead.
Combined with the X Division Championship bout between Willie Mack and new champion Chris Bey, Deonna's bout with Jordynne Grace is being classed as the match of the night, and for exceptionally good reason. For the duration of the match, 'The Virtuosa' worked over Grace's arms in preparation for her Fujiwara armbar finisher, something that clearly affected 'Thicc Mama Pump' as she was unable to connect with a Michinoku driver at full impact. A few big power moves towards the end of the bout saw Grace still selling the arm, a trope that is often the opposite in the wrestling world.
Purrazzo pummelled Grace before cinching in a modified Rings of Saturn, affecting both of the champion's arms as opposed to just the one, leaving Jordynne with no other option but to submit as Deonna Purrazzo achieved her biggest championship victory to date. The way Deonna was tactical in weakening Jordynne's arms for the whole bout made it all that better as Jordynne never once forgot about her injured arms. It's the small things that all add together to create a match of the night.
With 'The Virtuosa' vs. 'Smiley Kylie' up next in the list of Knockouts Championship matches, it'll no doubt be a fairly similar bout to this one in the sense that the new champion will target Kylie's legs to avoid any of those stiff superkicks. If it's anything like this, then that will be something to look forward to in the near future.
