8 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling Slammiversary 2020

2. Finesse To The Top

Even though he never had Johnny Swinger in his corner as originally planned, Chris Bey still finessed his way to the top of the X division, dethroning Willie Mack in what's considered the match of the night.

What came as quite a surprise was that Bey dominated the majority of this one after a brief exchange at the beginning of the match, keeping 'Chocolate Thunder' downed for a good chunk of the bout. Whether it was crotching Mack on the turnbuckles or busting out Johnny Swinger's own swinging neckbreaker, 'The Ultimate Finesser' was showcased to a tee here. Having only arrived a few months ago, it's one of the quicker debut-to-champion moments in recent history.

The defending champ did manage to muster up some power moves later on in the match, even planting Bey with his Stunner, but a springboard cutter, one of the newer weapons in his arsenal, saw a new X Division Champion crowned as the culmination of The Finesse and Bench Press Express has clearly done wonders for Chris Bey in the aftermath.

Ever since he joined the roster, Chris Bey has quickly risen to become one of the more enjoyable stars to watch. It seems that every match and segment he's involved in is typically a top-tier moment from each show, something that can't be said for many other roster members. Having him lift the X Division Championship was, without question, the greatest decision made here, particularly because he did so cleanly. He needs help to win far too often, so a clean win here helped establish Bey as a more credible force.
