8 Ups And 0 Downs For WWE NXT (Jun 22)
2. KUSHIDA And O'Reilly Put On A Clinic
After a night of promo packages building up the eventual collision between KUSHIDA and Kyle O'Reilly, it's safe to say the old rival's eventual main event delivered on its promise... and then some. But was it ever not going to?
For fans of technical grappling wars, this was an all-out feast. For every attempt at a hoverboard lock from the NXT Cruiserweight Champion, the former Undisputed Era man had another armbar, armbreaker, or slick pin up his sleeve to combat it. The same goes for KUSHIDA, who frequently stuffed 'Kool Kyle's savage kicks and made the star's left arm his own personal b*tch.
There could be only one winner in this Great American Bash tune-up, though, and for once a roll-up finish made all the sense in the world. I know! What a life.
Having O'Reilly outsmart and out-grapple KUSHIDA into an effective sudden pin also helped keep the fallen foe looking like a force to be reckoned with who simply didn't have an answer for that particular chess move. It happens to the best of us, and KUSHIDA is definitely that when it comes to the squared-circle.
