If this truly is the end of Undertaker’s long and legendary career, then it’s a sad moment for multiple reasons, but rather than lament how things could have been done better, we should praise the Phenom for his sacrifices and efforts throughout the years.

Taker symbolically hung ‘em up after losing to Roman Reigns Sunday night, which ran his WrestleMania record to a still-mindboggling 23-2. There literally has never been anyone before like him, and there damn sure won’t be anyone like him in the future. The Deadman certainly had some downs in his career, but he was a top performer for longer than almost anyone in WWE.

His career will be remembered for its longevity and staying power, but also for how he managed to reinvent or retweak his character to stay relevant well past the point that anyone thought possible. Taker had classic matches with numerous wrestlers and made WrestleMania his own personal playground.

Time will tell if this retirement is for real or if he’ll turn up in a ring again, but for now, thank you Taker.
