8 Ups And 2 Downs From WWE NXT 2.0 (Sep 14)
1. Goldie Comes Home
Adding to the all-round chaos that was always sure to make itself known on night one of NXT 2.0, we also had an impromptu NXT Championship fatal four-way to get stuck into after Samoa Joe's vacating of said title added more stakes to the previously announced number one contender's match.
Before we could even get to this battle, however, Kyle O'Reilly was dropped backstage by Ridge Holland and Pete Dunne - we're surely getting that Holland/O'Reilly match soon, right? This attack ultimately meant that the one-time UE man was now out of the aforementioned title showdown, with the dude who supposedly "saved" Kool Kyle put in the match in his place - Von Wagner.
If you have literally no clue who or what a Von Wagner is, you're luckily not the only one. Your writer isn't even entirely sure Wagner himself knows.
And that pretty much set the tone for a throw together dash of a match as L.A. Knight, Dunne, Tommaso Ciampa, and Wagner rushed through their greatest hits and thumped their way through a rapid battle. Sure, there were a few sweet moments - Dunne and Ciampa teaming up on the newbie and their frequent one-on-one wars were swell - but this match won't live long in the memory.
Goldie finally coming home after 908 days of waiting, though, most definitely will. Ciampa is the perfect man to lead NXT into a new era, very much taking up a similar role to the one Joe would've played with the strap: grizzled vet who isn't letting go of his top spot without a bruising fight. Long may he reign as the final boss, I say!
