8 Ups And 3 Downs From WCPW Refuse To Lose

2. Ross And Cornette On Commentary

I mentioned it multiple times now, but it really can't be stressed how nice it was to hear Jim Ross and Jim Cornette on commentary for the night. Listening to the two old pros enhanced the product to a whole other level.

The only miss may have been Cornette's line “That’s not the first time he’s gone after another man’s groin. I guarantee that.” when Blampied hit a low blow. I'm not sure if that was a gay joke, or if it just came out wrong, and he was just trying to say that he's a coward because he always goes for the nut shot. They way he followed up suggested the latter, but it was still a bit of a groaner.

Besides that, the two were gold. Alex Shane did well too, as I found myself laughing at quite a few of his lines, more than I laugh at JBL within in a six month time frame.

A defining match of the announcers success was in the opening match with Suzuki vs. Coffey. Ross gave it a sports-like feel while Cornette did a great job of filling in Suzuki’s resume for those unfamiliar with his work.

No Network shows to plug, no bad celebrity cameos, no Twitter handles to promote, just two of the all-time bests in their fields putting over the performers. It's the way it should be.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
