Cody Rhodes showed up at Bound for Glory on Sunday, but we haven’t seen him in the ring since he asked for his release from WWE. He left the company on his own accord, as he wanted to really show what he was made of, and that he deserved better.

In WCPW, he wasn’t Stardust, he wasn’t Dashing, he was just Cody Rhodes, which is the way it should have been for the past few years.

The crowd gave him a heroes welcome, and were especially hot for this match. Doug Williams was a great first opponent for Cody in WCPW, as he’s doing some great work with his “Mr. Brexit” character. Despite his opponent being from the UK, the American was universally cheered. It was a good dynamic, and both played their parts well.

The finish came out of nowhere, which was nice, but it seems the match could have used another five minutes or so to take things into an even higher gear. It also would have been nice to hear a brief promo from Cody, as is sure to have a lot on his mind, but hopefully we’ll get to hear what he has to say in the future.

Overall, this was a great post-WWE start for Cody, and absolutely proved that he deserved better from his former employer.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
