8 Ups And 3 Downs From WCPW Refuse To Lose

4. Kirby vs. Conners

“Hell of a match." -Jim Ross, after watching Martin Kirby vs. Joseph Conners.

Jim was absolutely right on with that call. Martin Kirby has been presented as a comedy act since his debut in WCPW, but the man really can go in the ring. His match with Joseph Conners was a strong showing for both men, and really got the crowd back into things after a little bit of a lull.

The match was memorable, with an impressive number of believable near-falls, and a dive through the ropes from Kirby that looked like it could have been quite disastrous. But luckily he stood right back up and looked no worse for wear.

The story here was well told with Conners seeming to underestimate his opponent, only to find that he just couldn’t keep him down, no matter what he tried.

The finale may have not been exactly what fans were looking for, but it began a new chapter for Kirby, and it looks like the company certainly has big things in mind for him.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
