5. Zayn Gets A Feud… With Foley

For months, fans have grumbled about the lack of direction for one of WWE’s most talented and “over” performers, Sami Zayn. The high-flying superstar has been grounded lately, stuck in go-nowhere mini-feuds.

Last week, Zayn was punished for losing his Survivor Series match with a bout against Braun Strowman. (Seth Rollins, who also lost at Survivor Series, was rewarded with a WWE Universal Championship match. Just saying.) Raw GM Mick Foley had to step in and save Zayn from a beatdown last week, and then again had to do the same when Sami attacked Braun after his match.

That triggered an argument between GM and wrestler, as Foley said Sami needed to be saved from himself, and Zayn laid into Mick, saying he needed to be saved from a GM who had forgotten who he was, that Foley was his hero but now was a hypocrite in his way.

It’s a strange dynamic, but it at least gives Zayn something interesting, interacting with a central character like Foley while setting up that Strowman is the white whale, a beast Sami just can’t possibly conquer (according to Mick). We’ll see where this goes…
