8 Ups And 7 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2017
3. Experience Matters
When the SmackDown Tag Team Championship match between New Day and the Usos began, it was a slow, methodical affair with the brothers beating on Xavier Woods. It was likely going to merit a tacit “down” because of the dull pace.
And then the match turned a huge corner. And it didn’t stop.
Jimmy, Jey, Big E and Xavier beat the hell out of each other, exchanging near-falls for a solid 10 minutes with superkicks, Shining Wizards, DDTs, an STO/Backstabber combo, and a double splash that ultimately sealed the deal for the Usos. It was a flurry of action that was hard to follow but easy to enjoy.
And with two of the veteran tag teams in WWE competing, it was easy to see why things were so electric. But it doesn’t look like New Day is going to break its record-setting tag title reign – at least not this time.
