8 Ups And 9 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 31

2. Slugfest In San Francisco

The WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns had the potential to be an absolute trainwreck, but instead it became an old school, big match slugfest, with both wrestlers throwing bombs at each other right away. Reigns busted Lesnar open early on, while Brock threw Roman around the ring like a sack of potatoes. Brock yelling €œWelcome to Suplex City, b*tch!€ was gold. As much as the fans universally hated Reigns, his laughing as he got pounded was a nice touch. He absorbed as much of the onslaught as possible and found his opening (with the help of the ringpost) before delivering a series of Superman punches and spears to nearly topple the Beast. Throw in some hardway bleeding €“ which is really effective when it almost never happens in matches anymore €“ and you had a match deserving of the main event. The interesting thing about this match is that Lesnar carried it. Reigns had not really had a great singles match before this one, and Brock€™s methodical beating really worked well. Here€™s hoping he gets a bonus for every dozen suplexes he throws.
