8 Ways WWE Is Catering To The Hardcore Fans Right Now
3. The Return Of The Cruiserweight Division
While there can be no denying that the nWo angle can claim the majority of the glory for WCW's rise in success during the Monday Night War, one of the unsung heroes of that battle was the cruiserweight division.
Eric Bischoff wisely recognized the value of bringing wrestlers in who worked a fast-paced style - "car crashes", as he called them - largely unfamiliar to American audiences and giving them a spot on the weekly show.
It was fresh and unlike anything seen by the casual fan, and was a large part of what set Nitro apart from Raw in the early days of the War. Even once WCW died and its remnants were purchased by McMahon, WWE was never able to replicate the success of the lighter weight wrestlers in their own company.
The WWE Network's Cruiserweight Classic tournament has been a rousing success and brought notoriety to many talented workers who deserve it, and their impending arrival on Raw in just a few weeks time has fans salivating at the potential.
Hopefully WWE books them as strongly as they have in the CWC and gives the guys the proper platform to do what they're great at, otherwise it may fizzle out like the promotion's previous attempts at pushing the cruisers.
Let's try and remain optimistic.
