7. Ring Of Honor - Rush Vs. PCO - Final Battle 2019

Ring Of Honor is a company without identity in 2019.

Much like 2001 ECW, the ideas it was built on have been subsumed by the mainstream, the talent that built it have transcended it, and the company is in the midst of a death spiral from which there is no escape. Moreover, the complexion of the roster is very strange, comprised as it is of enduring veterans and enterprising rising stars who are using ROH to increase their value by signing lucrative one year deals.

All of which led to the bizarre main event of this year's Final Battle, pitting twilight-years madman PCO against lucha libre standout Rush for a Championship that once, so gloriously, lived up to its name of determining the best wrestler in the world.

At one point, as he tends to die quite often, PCO died. He was recharged by a car battery, and, alive once more, choke-slammed Rush onto the bonnet of the hearse. Both incidents were sold with about the same conviction, rendering the entire spectacle a farce. It was difficult to receive it as even that, because the pace was so plodding, the clash of styles so incongruous, the brawling even less convincing than the gimmickry.

It was a nice moment for the legendary PCO, but that's what a celebratory WrestleMania Weekend match is for: here, ROH leveraged their future on a niche veteran, and no car battery can jolt it back into existence.
