8 Wrestlers John Cena Didn't Bury

When 2005 rolled around, WWE was in a strange place. Major stars The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin had stepped away from the ring, while both Eddie Guerrero and Randy Orton had struggled in their first reigns as world champions.

It meant that we were stuck with JBL as WWE champion for most of 2004 and into 2005 (a dark, dark time in WWE history that we must all try to forget), while Triple H was hogging the spotlight on Raw as World Heavyweight Champion.

The company needed to create new stars quickly then and it meant that both John Cena and Batista were thrust to the top of the card at WrestleMania 21. It may have been quicker than WWE would have liked, but both superstars rose to the challenge and grabbed Vince McMahon's infamous brass ring with both hands.

The two biggest stars of the WWE Ruthless Aggression era were mostly kept apart in their early years but finally squared off for the first time ever at Summerslam 2008 and, remarkably, it was Batista who picked up the win with a Batista Bomb. Cena obviously got his win back in a few of their rematches - most notably, at WrestleMania 26 - but Batista's win over Cena solidified him as a WWE legend.
