8 Wrestlers Steve Austin Refused To Lose Against

7. Billy Gunn

Billy Gunn is one of those talents that the WWE seemed eager to push at one point in time, then a collaboration of things led to not much happening for the former Smoking Gunn. In terms of getting behind Billy, the highlight of his singles run was his 1999 King of the Ring win. After all, since the KOTR relaunched in 1993, the winners up to that point had been Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Mabel, Steve Austin, Triple H and Ken Shamrock €“ all were pushed as top tier talents at one point in time (regardless of how much Mabel flat-out sucked). So, with Mr. Ass nabbing the €™99 win, it was Billy€™s time, right? Right?! Err, not quite. Supposedly, the immediate plan for Billy Gunn was for him to feud with Steve Austin in the aftermath of his big tournament win. Unfortunately for Billy, the Bionic Redneck promptly shot that idea down. Not deeming Gunn as a main event talent (and rightly so), Austin refused to get embroiled in a feud with Mr. Ass. You could say, though, that a feud with Austin could€™ve helped Billy to become a main event talent, but that€™s another story for another article. Instead, Gunn would go on to feud with another main event talent, The Rock. Sadly for Billy, though, that feud largely involved Billy staring at the lights night after night, as well as staring straight into a heavyset woman's backside at SummerSlam 1999. Some change in fortunes...
