Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage is one of the most influential performers in the history of pro wrestling. He helped break new ground for high flyers and the heel tactics he created are still used today by young grapplers. He sadly died of a heart attack whilst driving in 2011.

A few weeks before his death, Randy’s brother Lanny Poffo recalls how they and the rest of their family gathered at Randy’s house to spread Randy’s dog Hercules’ ashes. Randy asked his brother to pour the animal’s remains. “Why should I do it?” Lanny protested. “It’s not my dog.” Randy forebodingly replied, “I want you to do it. If anything happens, I want you to do the same thing with my ashes, the same way, the same place. If it’s good enough for Hercules, it’s good enough for me.”

The night before he died too, Lanny expressed how Randy invited him over to his house for some beers and they conversed about the WWE Hall of Fame with Randy saying he never wanted to go in by himself, reiterating it had to be the whole Poffo family inducted, or nobody at all. Lanny took this to mean that it would be his responsibility to deal with WWE regarding his brother if he managed to outlive the Macho Man.

Lanny spoke of how Randy was deeply reflective the night before he passed away, being appreciative of the people with whom he’d chosen to surround himself with over the last months of his life, saying to Lanny, “The best thing about you, Lanny, was you always took care of Mom, and I know you always will.”
