8 Wrestlers Who Predicted Their Own Deaths
5. Andre The Giant
Although a selection of wrestlers have transcended the squared circle to become worldwide stars (The Rock and John Cena among them), few have captivated the public quite like Andre the Giant.
Andre knew from a young age he would not grow into an old man due to his medical condition that turned him into a towering superstar. He had a pituitary gland disorder called acromegaly - where the gland produces too much growth hormone during adulthood, causing bones to increase in size. In the HBO documentary detailing his life, one of the most striking revelations is Andre declined medical attention that may have prolonged his life because he was worried it would have adverse effects on his beloved professional wrestling career.
"I use what God gave me. I am not supernatural. I'm just myself. So, what God gave me, I use it to make a living,” he said in an archival interview featured in the doc. Andre knew and understood he’d die young by continuing in his beloved profession, passing away at the age of 46 in 1993 due to heart failure.
