8 Wrestlers With Gimmicks Ripped Off From Comics

6. Arachnaman (Spider-Man)

Arachnaman Spider-Man
WWE/Marvel

Brad Armstrong, brother of WWE stalwart Road Dogg, would probably rather everyone forgot his time pretending to be a bogus Spider-Man.

In 1991, Armstrong assumed the role of Arachnaman, a name that does a damn fine job of sounding like some sort of disease. This was an attempt from the WCW creative team to create kid-friendly characters, but it only succeeded in making Brad (a solid in-ring worker) look like a total goof.

Marvel also weren't enamoured with the gimmick, and their threats of legal action against WCW forced the company to drop their Arachnaman idea completely. After that, Armstrong went back to playing himself in the Cruiserweight division and the character was never referenced by WCW again.

The webbed look to his costume and the silly string Arachnaman would shoot from his hands were a blatant rip off of Stan Lee's famous creation.
