8 Wrestling Gimmicks That Wouldn't Work In 2016

5. The Law Enforcement Officer

If a king, the highest authority in the land, isn't going to get much respect in 2016 then there is little hope for the lowly law enforcement officer. The Big Boss Man and to a lesser extent The Mountie experienced success in the World Wrestling Federation whilst working their authority jobs on the side, but in 2016 this just isn't plausible.

In 2016, authority comes from shady corporate entities. Once more, professional wrestling mirrors society here, in that young people are less and less afraid of the police themselves and more worried about the sinister elements that seem to defend and support the law enforcement officers.

In terms of wrestling gimmicks, you could probably throw all of the occupational gimmicks into this bag. That means no repo men, no bin men, no plumbers and certainly no evil dentists.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
