8 Wrestling Matches That Happened For The First Time Ever In WCPW

2. Kurt Angle Vs. Alberto El Patron

Kurt Angle made just a handful of independent wrestling appearances after leaving TNA in 2016, and WCPW was his most active promotion. The ‘Olympic Hero’ wrestled three matches for the company between October 2016 and February 2017, defeating Cody Rhodes and Joe Hendry in his first two bouts, before moving on to Alberto El Patron at True Destiny.

El Patron and Angle missed each other by a couple of years in WWE. Kurt left the company in 2006, while the former Del Rio didn’t show up on the main roster until 2010. Alberto was long gone by the time Angle eventually returned in April 2017, making this the only time they’re ever likely to cross paths in wrestling.

The duo meshed extremely well stylistically, with both bringing classic sports entertainment elements to the table. This resulted in something of a “greatest hits” session, with both men getting some of their most recognisable spots in, while cutting each other off with sharp counters. It turned out to be Angle’s last UK match before rejoining WWE, and he walked away with a submission victory, only to be attacked by Joe Hendry after the bell.
