As noted earlier, the cruiserweight division has desperately struggled to make an impact since its promotion to the main roster, with numerous decisions hamstringing it from the very start. One of those has been the selection of its champion, TJ Perkins.

Perkins is not a bad wrestler by any means - far from it. But of all the possible candidates to bear the flag of the nascent division, he is arguably the least defined. In the CWC format, this was largely irrelevant; the entire tournament's presentation was a massive departure from the 'sports-entertainment' spectacle that is Raw, so personality was entirely determined in the ring.

The cruiserweights exist in their own little purple bubble on the Monday night show, and as a result they feel entirely tacked-on. Perkins has had no real opportunity to get himself over as a character to an audience which expects more than wrestling, and the apathy has been tangible.

Brian Kendrick, on the other hand, has a stored reputation, one which he is currently trading off. The fans know who he is, and have at least a vague reason to care. Shifting the title to the 'veteran' and giving Perkins something to chase wouldn't be the worst idea, and it's likely to happen this Sunday.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
