8 WWE Legends Who Got One Over On Vince McMahon

8. Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio is currently embroiled in a contract dispute with WWE, who are essentially holding Rey hostage as they believe he owes them dates due to the amount of time he has missed through injury. Vince is adamant that Rey make up for his lost time and is refusing to grant him a contract release, which Rey desperately once so he can wrestle in Mexico and try his hand at acting. This isn't the first time Mysterio and Vince have been at odds. Although humble and soft-spoken, Rey isn't about to let anyone walk all over him and, as a smaller man, has had to stand up to the bullies many times in his life. In 2009, Mysterio won the Intercontinental Title at Wrestlemania XXV and was promised a lengthy run with the belt. After swapping the belt with Chris Jericho in their celebrated spring series, Rey entered into a feud with promising midcarder Dolph Ziggler over the championship. McMahon told Rey that he was going to drop the title to Ziggler at Night of Champions but Mysterio refused. He did the same at SummerSlam of that year, too, directly defying Vince's orders. Mysterio had to lose the title in September 2009 (to friend John Morrison) when he was hit with a thirty day suspension for a wellness policy violation. Mysterio again defied the boss by giving an interview to National Mexican newspaper The Record and professing his innocence. Vince was outraged at Rey's insolence but Rey wasn't punished for his actions and returned at the Hell In The Cell pay-per-view and went on to have big-money matches with Batista and The Undertaker.
